This, however, is not what I am writing about today. Today I am writing about forgetting things. I have almost never forgotten an event I have been invited to. Perhaps twice in my life. One of the things was a birthday party of a friend when I was around thirteen or fourteen. It was an escape room, and I totally forgot about it because no-one had reminded me. Another thing I forgot was Sing the Space yesterday. Extra embarrassing because I advertised in my newsletter that I was going to attend.

  I have many strategies I use to prevent myself from forgetting anything.

    1. Keep a planner or calendar. This has been essential once I started to book gigs as an actor and musician. I do multiple projects, and so I have to a) know what day of the week rehearsals are; and b) know what day of the week it is. I check it every morning.

    2. Set alarms. Since starting to set alarms for when I have to start packing up and when I have to leave, I have never been late to anything. How do I remember to set alarms? I do it when I check my planner. I always allow an extra ten to fifteen minutes as a contingency. If traffic is so bad that you are more than fifteen minutes late to something, then you won’t be the only person who is late.

    3. I look around a room before I leave. Since starting to do this, I have never left anything anywhere.

    4. I make an active habit of noticing where I am when using important items like my keys and my phone. More recently I’ve started noticing where other people are when they use their things, and have been able to help them find their possessions.

    5. I clean out my e-mail inbox. If it is about an event or gig that has passed, or if I am not expecting a reply, it goes in a folder. I have so, so many e-mail folders.

  Not to brag, but I’m pretty good and remembering things.
